Pondicherry University to Begin Executing NEP From this Educational Year

The Vice-Chancellor, Gurmeet Singh, stated that Pondicherry University planned to start applying the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 across all of its departments and associated institutions this academic year. “The NEP has multi-dimensional features and ‘education for empowerment’ and ‘skill development’.

NEP does not impose any particular language as everyone is assured of freedom to learn languages”, he mentioned.

Beginning with the present educational year (2023-2024), the university intends to implement an ‘Academic Bank of Credit' in each of its colleges. According to a formal statement, the purpose of this effort is to offer students the chance to pause their courses and come back to them later to finish them.

The vice-chancellor also brought up a financial issue, noting that the university's present funding allotment is insufficient.

He emphasized the need for more resources for the purpose of properly executing the suggested improvements. “The NEP envisages holistic development to foster cognitive and physical skills of students.

The policy promotes a multi-disciplinary approach that encourages students to explore various subjects and develop robust skills. Also, it emphasizes the integration of vocational education in the general stream”, he stated.
