Oman and India Explore Expanding Collaboration in Higher Education

The University of Technology and Applied Sciences hosted an academic delegation from the Republic of India, represented by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), which is currently touring the Sultanate of Oman.

The purpose of the visit is to investigate opportunities for collaboration in higher education and scientific research, along with reinforcing strategic alliances between the academic institutions of both nations.

Dr. Said Hamad Al Rubaie, Vice Chancellor of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences, highlighted the significance of strengthening academic ties and broadening collaboration between both parties to bolster initiatives focused on developing knowledge-based societies rooted in scientific research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

Throughout the visit, various important subjects were addressed, such as possibilities for collaborative research initiatives in energy transition, decarbonisation, innovative technologies, and artificial intelligence. The dialogues additionally addressed capacity enhancement via specialized workshops and training initiatives, exchanges for students and faculty, the creation of collaborative research centers of excellence, and the sharing of research resources like laboratories and scientific testing facilities.

Moreover, the methods for fostering entrepreneurship via business incubators and accelerators were examined, as well as the significance of combining academic and industrial sectors to enhance the innovation ecosystem.

The visiting delegation observed a presentation detailing the University of Technology and Applied Sciences’ development, its primary strategic focuses on innovation, research, and entrepreneurship, along with the current programs and initiatives that support these goals.
