NUS Becomes the First Asian University to be Ranked in the top ten of the QS World University Rankings
The National University of Singapore made history this week by breaking into the top ten of the latest QS World University Rankings.
NUS was ranked eighth, up three spots from the previous year's ranking of 11th.
The University of Singapore is also the first Asian university to be ranked in the top ten. They are also once again the top-ranked Asian university.
Quacquarelli Symonds' QS World University Rankings is an annual publication of university rankings.
The Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) and Singapore Management University (SMU) were ranked 429th and 545th, respectively, while the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) and Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) were not included in the rankings.
The 2024 QS World University Rankings included 1500 institutions from 104 countries, with results based on an analysis of 17.5 million academic papers and expert opinions from over 240,000 academic faculty and employers.
The rankings are also determined by the implementation of the largest-ever methodological enhancement by QS, which includes three new metrics: Sustainability, Employment Outcomes, and International Research Network.
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States topped the 2024 rankings for the 12th time in a row. The University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom finished second, with the University of Oxford in third place.
Other universities that made into the top 10 rankings include, in order from fourth to 10th, Harvard University, Stanford University, the Imperial College London, ETH Zurich, UCL and the University of California, Berkeley.
