NEP 2020 Policy Reworks Question Paper Format
The Gujarat government announced revisions to Class 10 and 12 board exams on Oct 12, in accordance with the National Education Policy 2020. The main changes include an increase in the amount of objective questions and a change in the format of descriptive questions.
Beginning this academic year, the proportion of objective-type questions will rise from 20% to 30%, while the proportion of descriptive-type questions will fall from 80% to 70%. By focusing on objective questions, this change attempts to give students a more fair testing environment. Furthermore, students in Class 10 can now take supplemental tests in three subjects, up from two previously. Class 12 general stream students can take additional exams for two topics rather than just one.
The adjustments provide even more freedom for students in the scientific stream in Class 12. In June and July, they can take additional tests for all subjects to enhance their results. The best grades from the two tries will be evaluated, with 50% of questions in MCQ format and generic alternatives available for the remaining 50% of descriptive questions instead of internal options.
These adjustments serve two purposes: they aim to reduce dropout rates in Classes 10 and 12 and are consistent with the National Education Policy 2020.
The decisions were made following a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, attended by Education Minister Kuber Dindor, Chief Secretary Raj Kumar, Chief Principal Secretary to the CM K Kailashnathan, and other officials.
