NCERT Proposes Inclusion of Marks from Lower Classes to Overall 12th Result

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has proposed a new assessment model for Class 12 board exams that aims to integrate students' marks from earlier classes and emphasize vocational and skill-based education.

The proposal, detailed in the report "Establishing Equivalence across Education Boards," suggests a cumulative evaluation system where the final Class 12 score would include 15 percent from Class 9, 20 percent from Class 10, 25 percent from Class 11, and the remaining 40 percent from Class 12.

This recommendation, presented by PARAKH—a regulatory body established by NCERT—to the Ministry of Education in July 2024, seeks to create a uniform assessment system across all educational boards in India. The report also emphasizes the inclusion of vocational and skill-based subjects, such as data management, coding, application development, artificial intelligence, music, arts, and crafts, to promote comprehensive learning as aligned with the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020).

Furthermore, the report advocates for evaluating teachers' performance and enhancing school facilities, including access to clean drinking water, well-equipped libraries, and sufficient sports amenities, to ensure a conducive learning environment.
