Navneet Education Launched Books to Detect Color Vision Deficiency
Navneet Education, India's top and most respected schoolbook publishers, has launched a revolutionary initiative to tackle a commonly underestimated learning need—Color Vision Deficiency (CVD), also referred to as color blindness. The initiative, developed by FCB Group India in association with ophthalmological specialists and teachers, is aimed at making education more inclusive.
Ever since 2022, Navneet Education and FCB Group India have been collaborating to bring impactful innovations in education, making ideas that drive empathy and insight. As a part of the same initiative, the company has come up with a special early learning book that not only educates but assists in detection. The book effortlessly integrates Ishihara-type color vision tests into its illustrations so that teachers and parents can detect possible color vision deficiencies in children during their early learning years.
“There are an estimated 10 million children in India with color vision deficiency,” said Dr Malgi, a leading ophthalmologist associated with the project. “Most of them go undiagnosed for years because the condition doesn’t visibly disrupt learning. But in reality, it affects confidence, participation, and long-term academic performance.”
In the early stages of schooling, subjects such as math, science, geography, and art in which color is an important factor becomes difficult for color-blind children. Such students are usually confused and embarrassed, and many are wrongly diagnosed as inattentive or slow learners when, in fact, they are unable to distinguish between certain colors. Early identification can make a big difference by allowing students to be provided with proper support through individualized guidance and alternative learning methods.
