Namo Laxmi Scholarship Supports 1.1 Million Girl Students in Gujarat

The Namo Laxmi scholarship program benefits more than 1.1 million girl students in Gujarat, with the goal of decreasing dropout rates in higher secondary education. Under this program, girls in grades 9 and 10 get Rs 500 each month for 10 months and Rs 10,000 more when they pass the board exams. Girls in grades 11 and 12 receive Rs 750 each month for 10 months and Rs 15,000 more upon clearing the board exams. In total, young girl students are eligible for a financial assistance of up to Rs 50,000 for their education from grades 9 to 12 spread over a four-year duration.

Amit Shah, the Home Minister, has distributed Rs 116 crore in scholarships to students in grades 9 to 12 from both government and government-aided schools. The scholarships have been distributed through the Namo Laxmi and Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana programs. This program encourages young women to seek further education, enabling them to be self-sufficient and financially autonomous down the line.

Likewise, the Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana initiative, aimed at advancing science education, offers a monthly stipend of Rs 1,000 to more than 250,000 students in grades 11 and 12. This program promotes the participation in science disciplines to cultivate a proficient technical labor force, backing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Viksit Bharat to address the demands of India's expanding manufacturing industry.
