Mumbai State Government Implements new Framework for Early Education
The Mumbai state government has implemented a new curriculum framework for the foundational stage of education that emphasises the use of a child's mother tongue as the primary medium of instruction. The curriculum emphasises interactive activities and exploration, with the goal of having students read and write clearly by class three. Concerns have been raised, however, about the implementation of multiple languages and the lack of a more independent curriculum framework. The draught also emphasises student nutrition and health.
In accordance with the new National Curriculum Framework-Foundational Stage (NCF-FS), the state government introduced a new curriculum framework for the foundational stage this week, which includes three years of pre-schooling and classes 1 and 2. The framework, known as the State Curriculum Framework for the Foundational Stage (SCF-FS), emphasises the use of a child's mother tongue or home language as the primary medium of instruction for early education.
"The first five years of education will be built around interactive activities, games, and exploration." "By the time students enter class 3, they should be able to read and write clearly," said an official from the State Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT), who was also a member of a committee appointed by the government to decide foundation state curriculum.
