Ladakh Achieves Full Functional Literacy Milestone Under ULLAS Program

Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Dr BD Mishra, announced Ladakh's attainment of full functional literacy status under the ULLAS-Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram, following the achievement of over 97% literacy. This significant milestone underscores Ladakh's dedication to empowering its citizens with foundational literacy, numeracy, and critical life skills.

Dr Mishra made this declaration during a celebratory event at Sindhu Sanskritik Kendra (SSK) in Leh, where neo-literates and volunteer teachers were honored. The event also marked the launch of the 2023 Annual Achievement Report of the school department, alongside festivities at the ULLAS Mela.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Mishra encouraged new learners and volunteers to continue their educational journey lifelong. He emphasized parental responsibility in sending children to school and urged students not only to seek employment but also to explore entrepreneurial opportunities. He commended Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for introducing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, foreseeing its pivotal role in shaping India's future growth.

Sanjay Kumar, addressing the audience, congratulated the people of Ladakh on this remarkable accomplishment. He assured them of the Ministry of Education's steadfast support in enhancing the school education system in Ladakh. Kumar reiterated the transformative power of education, echoing the joyous spirit encapsulated in the name ULLAS, which signifies immense happiness and fulfillment for new learners.
