Karnataka Cabinet Unveils Grand Plan to Revamp 500 Government Schools
The Karnataka Cabinet has unveiled a significant initiative to enhance the state's education infrastructure by upgrading 500 government schools into Karnataka Public Schools. This ambitious project, with a budget of ?2,500 crore, aims to be implemented over a four-year period, marking a substantial step towards improving educational standards.
To finance this transformation, the state plans to secure a 2,000 crore loan from the Asian Development Bank, complemented by ?500 crore from government funds. The project is scheduled to commence in July 2025 and continue until June 2029.
Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil highlighted that 308 Karnataka Public Schools are already operational across 204 taluks, serving as a foundation for this educational overhaul. This expansion aims to bring high-quality education and better facilities to more students across Karnataka.
In 2023, the market size of the education sector in India grew to US$ 48.9 billion. It is estimated that the market will achieve a value of US$ 125.8 billion by 2032, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11.1% between 2023 and 2032. India plays a significant role in the worldwide education sector, boasting approximately 1.55 million K-12 schools and a student population of 218 million.
