India's Space Program Requires Academic Support, says Former ISRO Chairman
According to former ISRO Chairman K Kasturirangan, India's space programme requires more academic support. He advocated for establishing more aeronautics and aerospace departments and facilities in universities, as well as increased research and innovation in this field. He also lauded the government's initiatives to promote space industrialization, commercialization, and international collaboration.
Former ISRO Chairman K Kasturirangan has advocated for the establishment of more aeronautics and aerospace departments in universities, as well as field facilities, in order to improve research inputs into India's space program. Speaking to PTI here, he also stated that he expects investment in the space sector to increase by two to three times its current level because the government is eager to support this field.
"We must ensure that we have a good education system that produces the best aeronautics and aerospace professionals." As a result, more universities must establish that department and facilities. "If necessary, ISRO should have a special programme to improve its educational component," said the veteran space scientist and Chairman of the National Education Policy draught committee.
University research must also be elevated to higher levels in order to contribute to the space programme. Currently, university research contributions to the space programme are very limited, whereas ISRO does support research with various universities to some extent.
