India and Singapore Bolster Educational Ties With Focus on Student Programs
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan met with Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to talk about improving collaboration in education and research between both countries. The discussion centered on enhancing cooperation in school education, vocational training, and research, emphasizing three key pillars: ‘Talent, Resources, and Markets.
Pradhan highlighted that India sees Singapore as a reliable ally in knowledge, especially in fields such as deep tech, startups, and innovation. He observed that the leadership of both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Wong has established a strong base for a wide-ranging partnership in important and growing industries, with the goal of taking the relationship to a higher level.
Pradhan previously had a meeting with Chan Chun Sing, Singapore's Minister for Education, to discuss ways to improve educational cooperation. Their talks focused on the global expansion of India's education system as outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. They assessed suggestions for international internship programs that would offer Indian students practical experience at companies in Singapore.
Another important topic was the possibility of establishing "twinning" schools in India and Singapore to enhance cultural connections between students from both countries. Collaborative research in deep technology, advanced materials, and medical innovation were also recognized as crucial areas for collaboration. Minister Pradhan emphasized the chance for collaborations between Singapore’s National Institute of Education and India’s NCERT in developing curriculum, teaching methods, and training for educators.
