IIT Kharagpur Adapts its Curricula to the NEP 2020 to broaden its Multidisciplinary Approach

IIT Kharagpur has taken significant steps in aligning its undergraduate and postgraduate courses with the guidelines of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, as revealed by the institute's director, VK Tewari, during a recent press conference.

In response to NEP 2020, one of the major initiatives undertaken by IIT Kharagpur is fostering multidisciplinary research in diverse fields such as science, technology, management, and law.

To enhance its academic offerings, the institute is introducing the MBBS programme at the BC Roy Institute of Medical Science and Technology, thus adding a new dimension to its educational portfolio.

Moreover, IIT Kharagpur is diversifying its undergraduate and post-graduate curricula by broadening the choice of electives and introducing interdisciplinary dual-degree programmes.

"Recognising the value of hands-on experience, the institute has extended the summer internship for undergraduate programs from eight weeks to eight months, allowing students to delve deeper into research or industry internships," said VK Tewari.

Furthermore, internships have also been proposed for post-graduate programmes, he added.

In a bid to promote global diversity and enrich the campus experience, IIT-Kharagpur has established an international student office and is actively working to increase the admission of international students.
