IIT Delhi Rolls out Multiple Provisions Including Multiple Entry and Exit Options From Courses in Line with NEP 2020
One of the key provisions of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is that the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Delhi) provides its students with multiple entry and exit options.
PhD exit with Masters of Science (Research), Master of Technology/MBA exit with PG Diploma of IIT (DIIT), UG exit with diploma or diploma in a specific engineering discipline, discipline change at the end of the first year of UG, UG to PG conversion, transfer from one PG programme to another, and upgradation are some examples.
Other initiatives to create a flexible academic atmosphere for the students include provisions like temporary hold in M Tech programme to avail employment and rejoining later, opportunity to UG students to further specialise in their parent discipline and explore other disciplines, semester leave for incubating startup and internship and flexible time frame, based on ability, to complete their course of study.
To offer multidisciplinary higher education as per NEP 2020, the institute has launched Bachelor of Technology programmes in Materials Engineering, Energy Science and Engineering, Computational and Applied Mechanics, Bachelor in Design, MSc in Economics, Cognitive Science among others.
Further, the IIT has rolled out multiple centres and school focusing on interdisciplinary research including Centre for Automotive Research and Tribology; Optics & Photonics Centre; Sensors, Instrumentation and Cyber-Physical Systems Engineering, etc, according to a release issued by the IIT.
It has also launched joint PhD programmes with the University of Queensland Australia and the National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University Taiwan; International PhD Fellowship Program (IPFP) and International Masters Scholarship Program (IMSP).
“We have implemented several provisions, and several others are in the pipeline. We have signed up for the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC),” Narayanan D. Kurur, Dean-Academics said.
