IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi Campus to Be Ready by January 2024; to have blend of Indian, UAE Admission Process
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi's Abu Dhabi campus will open in January 2024, according to director Rangan Banerjee. For its international campus, the institute has begun outreach programmes. The IIT Abu Dhabi campus will provide both undergraduate and graduate programmes. The new campus will be coordinated by Professor Shantanu Roy.
IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi will offer undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programmes in areas such as energy and sustainability, artificial intelligence, computer science and engineering, healthcare, mathematics and computing, and other engineering, science, management, and humanities disciplines. The IIT in Abu Dhabi currently has a temporary campus, and the institute will eventually move to a permanent one.
Initially, the IIT Delhi faculty will work at the Abu Dhabi campus, he said. He stated that IIT Abu Dhabi hopes to have both Indian and international students.
The admission procedures for the international campus will be a hybrid of those used in India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).Preeti Aghayalam, the new director of IIT Delhi, will also oversee some programmes for Egypt; however, no other international campus than Abu Dhabi is planned.
The professor said that they are working on the Jhajjar campus and it should be ready by 3-4 years depending on the funding. Recently, the ministry of education and the Abu Dhabi department of education and knowledge (ADEK) signed an agreement to start the IIT Delhi campus in Abu Dhabi.
In November last year, IIT Delhi announced the setting up of an offshore campus in Abu Dhabi. The centre had asked the institute to explore the possibility of starting a campus in the United Arab Emirates.
