Hyundai opens Centre of Excellence for future mobility tech at IIT Delhi

Hyundai Motor Group has established the Hyundai Centre of Excellence for future mobility technology (Hyundai CoE) at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. It is setting up a collaborative research framework to drive future mobility technologies centered on electrification and battery systems, demonstrating the Group's vision to drive innovation specific to Indian customer needs.

The program comprises nine collaborative research projects with IITs in the area of battery technology and has plans to increase cooperation with 10 universities in India by December 2025. Hyundai Motor Group executives and IIT officials participated in the main agreement ceremony in New Delhi. Hyundai CoE will be a core center for innovation and research, driving future mobility solutions and creating a localised base of innovation specific to Indian customers' requirements.

The Group has chosen nine joint R&D projects with IITs as part of its sustained academic-industry partnership program. These projects address areas of top priority.

These ranges from battery cells, systems and test, battery management systems (BMS), improvement in energy density, safety, endurance, and diagnostic technologies. The process also investigates new materials and system constituents and advances innovation in battery design and performance.

Representatives of Hyundai Motor Group joined the main ceremony of signing an agreement in New Delhi. They include Heuiwon Yang, President and Head of R&D Division; Unsoo Kim, Managing Director of Hyundai Motor India Limited; and Chang Hwan Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of Electrification Energy Solutions Tech Unit.
