Higher Education Dept Lists Equivalence Degrees for Government Vacancies
The Higher Education Department has further explained the requirements to fill the vacancies of public service by publishing the equivalence degrees of several university courses. The recent meeting of the Equivalence Committee recommended over 20 degree courses for the year 2025 to be considered equivalent for the purposes of government employment.
The committee functions as an appraisal committee to verify if the qualifications possessed by the candidate meet the needs for filling public service jobs and submits a report accordingly.
Among them are cases, wherein the committee has equated the BSc Computer Technology degree of the Madras University with BSc Computer Science for purposes of government service. Similarly, the BSc Information Technology, offered by Madurai Kamaraj University, is held equivalent. Further, the MCA degree from Bharathiar University was found to be equivalent to an MSc in Information Technology for government service.
Furthermore, equivalency has been established with regards to the MSc Computer Science and Technology that Women's Christian College, under the University of Madras, grants as part of its five-year integrated course. Deemed University qualifications are also recognized, such as the BEd Social Science being equivalent to a BEd History from SRM University. The Master of Science Education Physics from the Regional Institute of Education, Mysore, is also deemed equivalent to a BEd Physics in a public service role.
In addition, educational qualifications from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala are also considered to be equivalent to BEd to avail public service employment opportunities within the state.
