Gamification project Targets to transform education in Andhra Pradesh

The education department of Andhra Pradesh is preparing to transform learning through a gamification project that converts the conventional curriculum into engaging games. Designed to boost student involvement, the initiative will offer lessons through entertaining videos and mini-games to promote a better grasp of topics.

HRD and IT minister Nara Lokesh, in a recent interaction with TOI, shared insights into the project. "Effective use of technology is critical. In the past, children were given tablets with content, but there was little interest. There were a number of complaints from the parents over misuse of these smart tablets. Our govt is taking a different approach by gamifying the curriculum. I, along with senior IAS officers, recently reviewed the project's trailer, and it was fascinating to see the lessons come alive as games. We became kids and were quite engaged. This project will definitely give the best results," Lokesh stated.

The pilot phase of the project is already underway, with plans to roll it out fully by the next academic year. Lokesh expressed optimism about the potential of gamification to transform education in the state, emphasising the govt's commitment to leveraging technology for smarter learning.

Addressing the growing concern over children's screen time, Lokesh urged parents to monitor their children's gadget usage. "Addiction to smartphones is becoming a major challenge for parents. For our son, Nara Devansh, we strictly limit screen time to 10-15 minutes daily. Teachers and parents must remain vigilant," he added
