Ex-ISRO Chief K Sivan Appointed Chairman of IIT Indore's Board of Governors
Former ISRO chairman K Sivan has been appointed as chairman of IIT Indore's board of governors for the next three years. Professor Deepak B Phatak, Dr Sivan's predecessor, served until August 21, 2023. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore has recently launched a Space Science and Engineering course.
Dr. Sivan led ISRO from 2018 to 2022 and oversaw the launch of its Chandrayaan-2 mission on July 22, 2019. He graduated from Madras Institute of Technology with a bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering.
He earned a Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering from IISc Bangalore and a doctorate in Aerospace Engineering from IIT Bombay.
This academic session, IIT Indore introduced ten new academic programmes, including BTech in Space Science and Engineering, becoming the country's first IIT to offer the course. The programme has a capacity of 20 students, four of whom are female.
