Elon Musk Establishes School with Intent of Fostering Innovation in Toddlers
Elon Musk has founded a Montessori-based preschool called Ad Astra, meaning "to the stars," located in Bastrop, Texas, about 30 miles from Austin. The school, which is set to open in the fall, aims to provide a unique learning environment for children aged three to nine, focusing on hands-on, project-based learning with an emphasis on STEM education. The preschool is situated on a 40-acre property, utilizing a renovated 4,000-square-foot home, and has been granted a permit to operate with up to 21 students initially.
Ad Astra's curriculum is designed to foster curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking in young children, with the goal of developing the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers. The school integrates science, technology, engineering, and mathematics into its educational approach, encouraging children to explore, experiment, and solve real-world problems. This progressive learning model reflects Musk's vision of creating an educational experience that goes beyond traditional teaching methods.
Currently accepting applications for the 2024-25 school year, Ad Astra is hiring staff to support its innovative approach, including positions for assistant teachers for both preschool and kindergarten, as well as for students ages six to nine. The school's mission is not only to teach students academic skills but also to nurture the creativity and problem-solving abilities that will prepare them for the challenges of the future.
