Education Ministries Instructed to Increase Standards
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed his desire for the Education and Higher Education Ministries to prioritize enhancing the nation's education standards from the upcoming year
He mentioned that he had already communicated this information to the respective ministers, namely Fadhlina Sidek and Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin. He emphasized the importance of giving priority to this matter, in addition to improving school and higher learning institution facilities.
Effective January 2024, we will shift our focus towards enhancing the quality of education, while also addressing issues related to basic infrastructure. We have ensured that schools and toilets are repaired, and provided basic infrastructure. What are you still waiting for?
We will decline it if the (academic) performance remains unchanged from the previous year. During the launch of the dilapidated building pilot project at Sekolah Kebangsaan Bandar Baru Bangi today, he expressed that while we have provided assistance and facilities upon request, it is important to note that if the students' performance does not demonstrate improvement, we will not continue to accept such requests
Anwar, who holds the position of Finance Minister as well, emphasized that enhancing the quality of education is crucial for the progress of our nation. He reiterated that the Education Ministry ought to focus solely on improving proficiency in subjects like language, mathematics, science, computer technology, religion, and more, without needing to concern themselves with any other matters.
I also desire for parent-teacher associations to engage in conversations on how to motivate parents to give greater importance to their children's academic pursuits.
With a stable political environment and a robust coalition in power, I am optimistic that we will be able to prioritize education alongside reinforcing our economy.
