Education Dept Secretary and CBSE Chairman to discuss with school principals on NEP adaptation

Sanjay Kumar, IAS, Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy along with CBSE Chairperson, Nidhi Chhibber, IAS, held a productive meeting with principals of CBSE-affiliated schools today in the capital.

The interaction took place both physically, with over 250 principals from Delhi and NCR region, and virtually, as principals from across India and abroad joined the live session through the CBSE YouTube channel.

The meeting aimed to gather insights and experiences of schools in adapting to the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which was launched three years ago.

Nidhi Chhibber highlighted the significance of creating a wholesome learning environment and cited examples of art-integrated activities, project-based assessments, and fostering 21st-century skills in CBSE schools.

She emphasised the crucial role of schools in transforming and keeping pace with changes to maintain the educational ecosystem.

Sanjay Kumar delved into the challenges of ensuring basic minimum proficiency among students and enabling them to make informed choices based on their interests and aptitudes.

He stressed the integration of academic and skill subjects, with a focus on long-term benefits and preparing students for the world of work.

The discussion revolved around aligning teaching, learning, and assessment methodologies with the goals of NEP 2020.

During the meeting, senior officers of the Department of School Education and Literacy engaged in focused discussions on several important aspects, including:

Introduction of NCF-FS (Foundational Skills): Emphasising the significance of foundational skills for students' overall development.

Implementation of School Quality Assessment and Assurance Framework (SQAAF): Assessing adherence to quality standards for individual and institutional excellence.

Structured Assessment for Analysing Learning (SAFAL): Conducting key stage assessments to track achievement in core concepts, higher-order skills, and their application in real-life situations.

Holistic Progress Card (HPC): Redesigning report cards to assess holistic development and reflect progress in different domains while recognising the uniqueness of each learner.

RTE Act Implementation: Ensuring access to quality education for all children, promoting social inclusion, and reducing the gap between educational opportunities for children from diverse backgrounds.

Competency-Focused Teaching, Learning and Assessment: Rethinking teaching methods and assessment practices to align with competency-based education.

Learning Goals and Pedagogy: Exploring effective pedagogical approaches and aligning learning goals with the objectives of NEP 2020.

Capacity Building of Teachers: Addressing the need for training and development programs to equip teachers with the skills and knowledge required for effective NEP 2020 implementation.

CBSE also stated the upcoming G20 Education Working Group (EdWG) events in its latest notification.

From June 1 to 15, 2023, Janbhagidari Events will focus on ensuring foundation literacy and numeracy, particularly in the context of blended learning. The activities will be organised at the district and state levels, with CBSE playing a leading role.
