Delhi University Launches New Self-funded Courses, Vedic Math Course and More

The Delhi University Executive Council (EC) met for the 1267th time on Friday, August 25, at the University's Convention Hall, presided over by Vice Chancellor Professor Yogesh Singh. During the meeting, several crucial decisions were reached, ranging from new courses to age relaxations for students participating in the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections.

One significant decision made during the meeting was to extend undergraduate and postgraduate students' ability to run in the Delhi University Students' Union elections.

Undergraduate students can now vote in elections till the age of 25, with a three-year age relaxation. Postgraduate students, on the other hand, have been granted the right to compete until the age of 28.

However, the university made it clear that this exception will only be in effect for this academic year.

The proposals of the Value Addition Courses (VAC) Committee were approved in order to improve learning possibilities.

This prepares the door for the introduction of Vedic Maths-III, Vedic Maths-IV, and VAC: National Cadet Corps-III value addition courses as part of UGCF-2022-23 beginning with the academic year 2022-2023.

The EC meeting saw the acceptance of several Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC) in accordance with the UGCF-2022 requirements. Basic of Food Science and Nutrition, Basic of Forensic Science, Basic Laboratory Techniques, Public Health Hygiene and Nutrition, La Tex Typesetting for Beginners, Mathematical Modelling with Excel, Financial Modelling with Excel, Network Flows, R-Shiny: Powerful Web Apps, and Spoken Persian: Elementary Level are among the courses that have received approval.

Vice Chancellor Professor Yogesh Singh stated emphatically that these courses would produce competent, industry-ready graduates who may go on to start their own businesses or get positions in sectors such as food and drug evaluation labs.

The council emphasised that provisions will be made for the SC/ST, LGBTQ+, CW, and PWBD quotas, as per the university’s rules and guidelines.
