CBSE Affiliated Schools To Establish Skill Centers on Campus
As part of implementing the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 4.0, the Central Board of Secondary Education has urged all CBSE-affiliated schools to establish skill centers on their campuses. In the Union Budget 2023, the Indian government introduced PMKVY 4.0. Its purpose is to apply the knowledge gained from SHI implementation inside the scope of PMKVY 3.0.
"All schools affiliated with CBSE (Private or Government), especially those offering Skill subjects in their schools, are encouraged to start Skill Hub in their premises per given guidelines and norms," according to the official press release.
According to the Board, India's 2020 National Education Policy (NEP) emphasizes the necessity of boosting skill development in schools to prepare students for the demands of the 21st-century knowledge economy. The policy emphasizes the importance of skill development in schools and incorporates vocational (skill) education and training programs into school curricula.
Skill Hubs can be established at State and Central Government schools, HEIs, colleges, and universities (including skill universities) with the necessary infrastructure to provide Short Term Training under PMKVY 4.0.
PMKVY 4.0 proposes offering various demand-driven and industry-linked skilling programs, including new-generation courses such as 3D printing, robotics, drones, artificial intelligence, etc.
"Since 2015, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has been implementing PMKVY to develop an industry-ready workforce and improve employability skills." The initiative "targets school/college dropouts, out-of-school children, and unemployed youths between the ages of 15 and 45," according to the notification.
