Eligibility

The film industry’s technical courses demand a 10+2 degree and others require graduation. Before opting to study a particular course, a student has to clear the entrance examination. Specializations like directing, cinematography, animation, acting and photography offer diplomas, degrees and certificates. There are two types of careers in film making – Direct and Indirect. In direct careers, professionals work actually in a film project, while in indirect careers, professionals are mostly critics, archivists and distributors.

Different Career Fields

  1. Producer – With the main job to keep track that everyone is performing at their peak, producers select stories, manages resources, hires the cast and crew like the director. A producer is responsible for choosing the location and even can direct a scene when required. Education – Individuals most often complete Mass Communication from film and television institutes.
  2. Director – A producer’s main man with workload for translating the producer’s vision. Choreography, costumes, music and crew everyone depends on him. Education - Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), or Bachelor of Science (BS).
  3. Editor – Films are made haphazardly. So to sort everything in order, an editor is required who works closely with the director and producer. He is responsible for retakes, special effects and cuts. Education - Bachelor's or a Master's degree in Animation or Media Arts.
  4. Screenplay Writer – Stories have to be made in a screenplay format. That’s why screenplay writers are there, who brings creative and visualization talents in bridging the gap between story and screenplay. Education – Graduation in Literature or creative writing course.
  5. Actor – Skills include strong mimicry and powers of empathy. An actor should have a good memory. Fine physical attributes and personality develop over time. Education – Completing an acting course from a top-notch academy.
  6. Animator – An animator is responsible for creating visualization of moving images. They have solid technical skills. Animators are creators of cartoons, commercials and games. Education – Fine arts, graphic design and animation design graduation.
  7. Cinematographer – While working closely with the director, a cinematographer accumulate scenes for making them visually impactful. Education – 2 or 3 years’ Graduate and Postgraduate degree in Filmmaking and Cinematography or 6-month — 1-year diploma course.
  8. Cameraman – A cinematographer’s chief operator who indulges in the technicality of cameras is a cameraman. Education – Same as a cinematographer, a cameraman should have 2 or 3 years’ Graduate and Postgraduate degree in Filmmaking and Cinematography or 6-month — 1-year diploma course.
  9. Lighting Technician or Operator – They are responsible for changing day to night and night to day, shifting atmosphere with the change of color. It is a highly technical based job. Education – A bachelor's degree in theatrical production arts.
  10. Soundmen – Soundmen are responsible for recording, dubbing, sound mixing and effects. Education - A degree in Audiography/Electronics with a high school science background.
