Approval Of Appointment Of 8 New IIT Directors By President Droupadi Murmu
Indian Honorable President Shri Droupadi Murmu approves the appointment of directors to eight IITs, which include two who are reappointed for the second term as per the education ministry. Directors of the two IITs got appointed to the top post at different IITs which include IIT Bhilai Director Rajat Moona, who gets appointed as director of IIT Gandhinagar and IIT Director Pasumarthy Seshu, who has been selected as director of IIT Goa. The two IIT directors K N Satyanarayana (IIT Tirupati) and Manoj Singh Gaur (IIT Jammu) get re-appointed for the second term.
Two professors from IIT Madras - Seshadri Sekhar and Shreepad Karmalkar have been appointed as directors of IIT Palakkad and IIT Bhubaneshwar respectively.
Venkayappaya R Desai from IIT Kharagpur’s Department of Civil Engineering gets appointed as the Director of IIT Dharwad.
From IIT BHU’s School of Material Science and Technology has been chosen as Bhilai’s Director.
The previous year, the Ministry of Education (MoE) had last year sought applications for six of the new IITs including Dharwad, Goa, Palakkad, Jammu, Bhilai and Tirupati.
The advertisement released on September 18 states that the applicant should be a PhD with first class or equivalence at the preceding degree, preferably in a branch of engineering.
Incumbent director – R V Rajakumar’s five-year tenure ended on April 2020 at IIT Bhubaneshwar and the institute was awaiting its new director.
