Meta Supports NLSIU-IIT Bombay GenAI Consumer Grievance Project
Meta has announced support for a research project at the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) evaluating how large-scale linguistic models (LLM) can be used to create public solutions for India to improve the legal protection system of consumers. The project is carried out with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) in collaboration with the Department of Consumer Affairs (DoCA) as a knowledge partner.
With our interdisciplinary research expertise, NLSIU is uniquely positioned to help pioneer legal applications using these large language models. We are creating a rich set of Indian legal resources to map the country's consumer litigation landscape and use this material to train the lame model, NLSIU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sudhir Krishnaswamy said in a statement.
In addition, Karnataka today signed a MoU with Meta on two important initiatives aimed at creating awareness among students and teachers about cyber security and digital citizenship. Through this partnership, the country plans to train 100,000 teachers and 10,000 students in digital safety and AR/VR literacy by 2025. Meta said the research initiative is exploring the possibility of using Llama 2, the company's open broad language model, to build and evaluate a proof of concept for a citizen-centric chat and legal consumer decision tool.
As part of the Internet Safety Initiative, youth (ages 18-24) from 100 colleges and universities across the state will receive digital literacy training. The purpose of the program is to make them aware of new trends in digital security. Meta also trains and deploys master trainers in these universities.
