No tuition fee hike in IITs, IIITs for the academic year 2020-21: HRD minister
As the students across the country are worried about their future, addressing to their concern the Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal recently announced that, “After discussing with the chairman of the Standing Committee of the IIT Council and several directors of the IITs it is been decided that there will be no expansion in education costs for the up and coming scholastic year at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs), as well as IIITs, due to the crisis occurred by Covid-19 pandemic”.
II-T Delhi has already announced that there will be no hike in the fees for their post-graduation courses. Also, as declared by the HRD Minister, all the 23 IITS around the country will follow the fees structure of the academic year 2019-2020 for both the undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Further, he added that as earlier it was decided to increase 10 percent tuition fees for the upcoming years but it will not be implemented considering the present situation. It was decided to hike fees for a new batch of M.Tech students on an average of Rs 30,000 a year to 2 lakhs per annum. However, this decision has been dropped and it is been finalized by the authorities of IITs and the central government that there will no hike in any fees.
The IIT aspirants need not worry about the tuition fees hike and also the placement, furthermore the HRD minister announced that a special placement drive will be conducted for the IITs, the students whose placement offers have been cancelled may also participate in this placement drive.
Alongside Ramesh Pokhriyal also announced the examination dates for NEET, JEE-MAIN and UGC NET. The NEET will be held on July 26, 2020, JEE MAIN to be held from 18-23 July 2020. Dates of UGC NET and JEE (Advanced) will be announced very soon.
