NEET 2019 Exam Dates, Eligibility, Exam Pattern and Syllabus
Previously known as AIPMT- All Indian Pre-Medical Test, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is an entrance examination for admission in UG medical and PG medical courses. Students who qualify for this examination are eligible to pursue medical and dental courses in private and government medical & dental colleges in India.
Before the NEET entrance examination was conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education which is now overtaken by the National Testing Agency (NTA). In this calendar year, the NTA board is set to conduct the examination on May 5th.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for NEET entrance examination one must be an Indian residents, OCI (Overseas Citizenship of India), PIO (Persons of Indian Origin Card), or an NRI (Non-Resident Indians). Candidates must have completed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English as core subjects from a recognized board. The candidates need to have 50% marks (general category), 45% marks for (for general PH) and 40% marks (SC, ST, OBC and reserved PH) in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The minimum qualifying age for appearing in NEET as on December 31st, 2019 is 17 years.
Exam Pattern
NEET is a pen and paper based examination which consists of 180 MCQ questions from Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology. Each section has 45 questions and each question has 4 marks. For every correct answer a candidate is awarded 4 marks and for every incorrect answer, 1 mark is deducted.
The examination is conducted over a 3 hours duration in English, Hindi, Assamese, Kannada, Odia, Tamil, Telegu, Marathi, Bengali and Gujarati.
Syllabus for NEET
The NEET examination syllabus includes topics of class 11 and 12 Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The syllabus is designed by the Medical Council of India (MCI).
The topics included from class 11 and 12 Physics are Physical World and Measurement, Kinematics, Laws of Motion, Work, Energy and Power, Motion of System of Particles and Rigid Body, Gravitation, Properties of Bulk Matter, Thermodynamics, Behaviour of Perfect Gas & Kinetic Theory, Oscillations and Waves, Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetic Effect of Current and Magnetism, Electromagnetic Induction and Alternating Currents, Electromagnetic Waves, Optics, Dual Nature of Matter and Radiation, Atoms and Nuclei, Electronic Devices.
The topics included from class 11 and 12 Chemistry are Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry, Structure of Atom, Classification of Elements and Periodicity in Properties, Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure, States of Matter: Gases and Liquids, Thermodynamics, Equilibrium, Redox Reactions, Hydrogen, s-Block Elements, Some p-Block Elements, Organic Chemistry – Some Basic Principles and Techniques, Hydrocarbons, Environmental Chemistry, Solid State, Electro Chemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Solutions, Surface Chemistry, General Principles and Processes of Isolation of Elements, p-Block Elements, d and f Block Elements, Coordination Compounds, Haloalkanes and Haloarenes, Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers, Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids, Organic Compounds Containing Nitrogen, Biomolecules, Polymers and Chemistry in Everyday Life.
The topics from Biology are Diversity in Living World, Structural Organization in Animals and plant, Cell Structure and Function, Plant Physiology, Human Physiology, Reproduction, Genetics and Evolution, Biology and Human Welfare, Biotechnology and Its Applications, Ecology and Environment.
Important Dates
Candidates are requested to visit the official website of NEET – ntaneet.nic.in to download the admit card for NEET 2019 which will be released on 15th April 2019. Since candidates will mark their choices in OMR sheets, the OMR answer sheet along with the answer key will be displayed on the website on 4th week of May. The candidates will have a fair chance of challenging the answer key to the given date on the NEET website. The result of NEET 2019 will be declared on June 5th, 2019 and the board will start the first round of counseling in the first week of July 2019.
