Active Learning: Helping to Meet Learning Objectives

In the last few years, educationist around the world has done ample research on how to create a ‘perfect' learning space for the young students inside the classroom. And the outcome of most of the research asks the different stakeholders of the education arena to embrace an active learning environment. Apparently, this approach not only provides the students a fulfilling learning experience but also gives them enough chance to participate in the teaching-learning process. Here we have noted down few points which will appropriately justify the emphasis on active learning:

1. Removing Stagnation: It is said that a teacher is not fully accountable to their duty until they are able to make the students’ enjoy their subjects. However, a classroom becomes utterly boring when the teacher keeps on lecturing on a topic and the students are not allowed to express themselves freely. In this scenario, the adoption of active learning by the teacher greatly helps in motivating the students to speak up in the classroom and build both their knowledge quotient and confidence level.

2. Improved Teacher-Student Relationship: Teachers plays a pivotal role in making the student feel that they belong to the school/college/University. For doing well in studies, it is important to have a very friendly rapport with the faculty members now a day. And 21st-century teachers as well are aware of this fact, given which they always strive to initiate healthy conversations with the students, which undoubtedly results in better grooming of the futures of the nation. With such growing improvements in the education sector, it won't be wrong to say that active learning explicitly is able to change the traditional way of teaching.

3. Positive classroom management: Modern day lives are filled with stress, uncertainties, and disappointments. Among all, the young population is found more affected by the negativity that is spread around the world. This situation in a big way can be solved by instilling a good amount of positivity within the classrooms and educational spaces. Teachers when are in constant touch with their pupils are more aware regarding their mental state- which is only possible by letting the students exhibit their thoughts and ideas throughout their course tenure.

4. Identifying Weaknesses and Analysis: It becomes extremely easy for the teachers to do a SWOT analysis of the students in an active learning environment in comparison to a class where students are all the time listening and not talking. Getting the opportunity to understand each student closely by reaching out to them individually lets the teacher to quickly grasp their strengths and weaknesses and start working on the same. According to the student's interest, the teachers thus can plan their teaching methodologies.

Active Learning is not just a myth today; numerous educational institutions are positively taking us this approach and are experiencing magical results. Students now are not only busy with piles of homework and mugging up concepts, but also is practically doing and understanding the theories. To summarize, active learning is here to stay and bring on a productive revolution in the educational world.
