Uttar Pradesh Government to Launch 14 Medical Colleges

The Uttar Pradesh government is poised to inaugurate 14 new medical colleges, with the Medical Education Department formally requesting approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC) to conduct campus inspections. If sanctioned, this move could potentially add around 1,400 additional MBBS seats in the state, supplementing the existing 8,000 seats.

These new medical colleges are slated to be established across various districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Kushinagar, Kaushambi, Sultanpur, Amethi, Kanpur Dehat, Lalitpur, Pilibhit, Oraiya, Sonbhadra, Bulandshahr, Gonda, Bijnor, Chandauli, and Lakhimpur Kheri.

Presently, the state offers 3,828 MBBS seats in government colleges and 4,700 seats in private colleges. Last year, Uttar Pradesh introduced nine new colleges.

In the event of the approval of these 14 new medical colleges, a total of 19,376 vacant positions for teachers and staff will be filled. Among these, 9,954 positions will be filled through direct recruitment, while 56 posts will be filled via deputation, and 9,366 posts will be filled through outsourcing. Each medical college is expected to have 112 posts for Assistant Professors, Professors, and Physicists. Additionally, there will be 446 positions for Senior Residents, Junior Residents, and Medical Officers, with 110 posts allocated for Chief Pharmacists, Dental Technicians, Pharmacists, and non-technical staff.

Meanwhile, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the deadline for NEET-2024 form submissions. The medical education department is striving to obtain approval from the NMC before the counselling date for NEET admissions is announced.

A senior official from the medical education department has indicated that the physical verification of infrastructure at the 14 campuses is imminent. The official confirmed that they have already submitted the application and paid the requisite fee for this process.
