UGC Approves 50 New Medical Colleges

In accordance with official sources, fifty new medical colleges have been approved this year, adding 8,195 more undergraduate seats and bringing the nation's total number of such seats over 1,07,658.

They also pointed out that 102 medical colleges have been sent show-cause notices.

A total of 24 medical colleges have appealed to the NMC, while six of the 38 medical colleges have petitioned the health minister.Colleges that have lost recognition are allowed to appeal twice—once to the NMC and once to the health ministry—after fixing the flaws and deficiencies.

According to the sources, the UG board of the commission's inspections revealed that many flaws with CCTV cameras, Aadhaar-linked biometric attendance protocols, and faculty rolls prevented the colleges from meeting the required standards.

In addition, 102 medical colleges have received show-cause warnings, they noted.
