IIT Bombay Introduces MTech Program Focused on Climate and Sustainability

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay) announced a new MTech program in Climate and Sustainability during the 63rd convocation, starting in July 2025. These courses seek to tackle the increasing difficulties in climate change, sustainability, and geophysical research, equipping students for advanced careers in these areas.

The Department of Earth Sciences at IIT Bombay has created these programs to provide students with knowledge in advanced geophysical exploration, environmental monitoring, and sustainable development. The launch of these courses corresponds with India's growing emphasis on climate action and resource management.

Reflecting on the 66-year history of IIT Bombay, Prof. Kedare emphasized the institution's expansion from 2,500 students in 1965 to nearly 14,000 now. He also noted that with more than 4,000 Ph.D. scholars, the Institute has solidly positioned itself as a worldwide leader in education, research, and innovation. A sum of 354 degrees were conferred, comprising 219 PhD degrees. IIT Bombay reiterated its dedication to academic excellence and innovation, emphasizing the demand for skilled professionals in climate sustainability and geophysics.

As the world transitions to sustainable technologies and climate resilience, these courses will create new job prospects in research, energy fields, environmental consulting, and policymaking. Learners keen on these fields can anticipate cross-disciplinary education and practical experience in state-of-the-art laboratories.

Candidates who qualify for GATE 2025 can choose this MTech program to align with changing industry needs. The GATE results will be announced by IIT Roorkee on March 19, 2025; the official answer key is anticipated to be published shortly.
