| | 4 September 2020HIGHERReviewEditorialIn the early 1980s, approximately 8 percent of the Indian population had access to higher education as compared to only 1 percent in China. However, the global ranking of Chinese universities over the past two decades has showed that a focused approach with humongous investments in the education sector can lead to fantastic outcomes. With both the countries being large nations in Asia, this comparison between China and India is apparent. While India has traditionally been seen as a country that sends rather than receives international students, over the past years a large number of students from abroad are now choosing to study in India. The country is welcoming more than 30,000 international students every year. Today, Indian universities are completely capable of succeeding and attracting young talent from across the globe. India's higher education system was ranked 26th in the world in the QS Higher Education System Strength Rankings 2018, and the country is especially well-known for the quality of its education in engineering and technology subjects, spearheaded by institutes like Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore and the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). A total of 75 top universities from India featured in the first ever QS India University Rankings, with mainly IITs in the top 10. Apart from the science and technology specialists, some of the highest-ranked comprehensive universities are the University of Hyderabad (ranked seventh in India), the University of Delhi (eighth), the University of Calcutta (11th) and Jadavpur University (12th).Education brings wisdom and knowledge, and without it, nobody can taste success.
