| | 4 November 2019HIGHERReviewEditorialIn today's changing world scenario with regard to industry and the job market, there is now an overpowering need for skilled workers in India. However, the definition of 'skill' in India, and the world, in general, has changed tremendously over time. From Job Opportunities to Personal Growth, skill development, particularly, has been the hot topic for concern due to the major role which it plays in fuelling the growth of an individual. India has the world's largest population of about 500 million in the age bracket of 5-24 years and this provides a great opportunity for the education sector. The education sector in India is estimated at US$ 91.7 billion in FY18 and is expected to reach US$ 101.1 billion in FY19. However, there is a major skill gap in the country as 80 percent of graduates especially from the engineering stream end up being `unemployable'. In today's world of Globalization, Skill Training has an Integral component of increasing efficiency & productivity of an individual. With increasing competition and the changing demands of the market, it is essential that individuals, whether students or employed continuously upgrade their skills. Skill India is a campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 15 July 2015 which aims to train over 40 crore people in India in different skills by 2022. While schools and colleges are playing their roles in contributing to the knowledge of learners, training institutes are playing a crucial part by filling in the skill-void within candidates. A college degree might as well land you a good job in corporate but it is the right skill and training which will place you in the right place.
