| | 4 April 2018HIGHERReviewEditorialCanadians are a happy bunch of people now. Be it life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness or a house, a job or a degree, it has now become easier in Canada. The World Happiness Report 2018 published by the United Nation ranks Canada in 7th position. On the other side of the globe, India is in the 133rd position of this World Happiness Index that measured 156 countries in terms of happiness level based on factors such as life expectancy, social support and corruption. According to John Helliwell, a co-editor of the World Happiness Report and professor emeritus of economics at the University of British Columbia, the happiness of locally born residents and foreigners is closely related and he said, "Those who move to happier countries gain, while those who move to less happy countries lose."Definitely, Canada is the new shore of opportunities. For international students, the country offers high-quality education and the tuition fees are generally lower than in other countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom. Apparently, many Indian students today prefer Canada for higher education. In 2017, the cumulative total of the number of Indian students attending Canadian colleges and universities crossed 100,000 for the first time. According to data for study permit holders by country of citizenship from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Canada attracted 31,975 Indian students in 2015. That number rose to 52,890 by the end of 2016, and it reached 44,855 by August 2017. The immigrant-unfriendly signals from the Donald Trump administration in the US is a part of the reason for the surge in Indian students opting for higher education in Canada. To help Indian students who are in search of Canadian colleges to fulfil their higher education dreams, we have come up with the list of `Top 10 Promising Colleges in Canada' in this issue. We hope that our efforts will help the larger community of students to make accurate decisions about their study locations. Enjoy Reading.
