| | 4 September 2019HIGHERReviewEditorialUnder the Trump administration, the introduction of new immigration and citizenship laws have led to international students facing administrative hurdles, some of which have been proposed while some are already in effect. While USA was the first priority of most students, Australia is already giving a neck to neck competition when it comes to drawing international students. With its high standards of living and even higher standards of education, Australia is an increasingly popular study destination with international students from across the globe. The country follows a 3-4 year undergraduate system and a 1-2 year postgraduate system, while also giving students the option to enroll for its graduate diploma or certificate programs that are focused on developing vocational skills. The biggest perk for most International students studying in Australia would be Part-time Work Permit. Australia allows its students to work for 40 hours in a fortnight during the semester and full time during breaks. While a Tax File Number is necessary to work part-time, the minimum hourly rate is about $11.64 for which the students can work as per their convenience and availability. With Australia's point-based education system, it is easier to qualify courses and get a work visa which is based on factors like English proficiency, work experience, age, occupation demand, and others. While the work visas and permanent residency based on your skills and job, this might seem complicated but it is not uncertain like USA. Planning to study abroad and then choosing your area of study, is not just it. Selecting the correct university or college in the right country can be a challenging task. While your choice of university definitely depends on the subject, there are various criterions that have to be taken into consideration before you finally close on your study abroad options.
