| | 4 Mar-Apr 2017HIGHERReviewEditorialRecently, one of my friends who was working with a start-up in Bangalore as a software developer, shifted back to a multinational company. He said, "The work culture there was awesome, but I don't see a growth in their business. It's better to stick with old-world companies that are into conventional businesses; at least, they assure stability in jobs." The year 2016 was not as good as 2015 for Indian start-ups and it is evident in the campus recruitment space. In 2015, many of the prominent start-ups were given first-day recruiter's slot in India's premier colleges, allowing them to pick the crème of the campuses. However, many of them failed to keep their placement commitments or there was a delay in joining dates. For the same reasons, many institutes omitted a large number of start-ups from their 2016 recruiter list, as there was reluctance from students to join such organizations. Despite the hiccups, the entrepreneurship revolution that has swept India in recent years had a huge impact on aspirations of students, especially for those who are in management education space. Today's generation of students are not worried about the failures of a new business. Instead, they focus on the experience that they would get while re-writing the rules of the business game. However, not all institutes would give them expected results. To help students in making informed decisions, not just about b-schools, but also about their careers, Higher Education Review presents its fourth edition of `Beyond IIMs B-school Survey 2017.' Three years ago, upon seeing a good response in participation by the B-Schools to our survey, we had increased the list from 50 to 100. This year too, we have continued with that to encourage better participation and to allow more colleges to come into the fold of open assessment. We have also tried to come up with some of the untold stories of institutions, in the pages following the listings, and included their secrets to success. We strongly believe that it is important to bring the names of such management colleges into the limelight, so that, their ideologies and methodologies can inspire other institutions in the country to drive on a better path and help India come out of its cocoon to become a nation of managerial brilliance. On the cover, we feature one such institute - Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, Mangalore. Enjoy Reading.
