Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) is one of the largest technological universities in India with 16 years of tradition of excellence in technical education, research and innovations. The institute laid its foundation in the year 1998 to cater to the needs of Indian industries for trained technical manpower with practical experience and sound theoretical knowledge. The various undergraduate courses include a Bachelor of Architecture and B Tech courses in automobile, bio-technology, civil, chemical, computer science, electrical and electronics, industrial and production, biomedical, instrumentation, mechanical, mechatronics and silk and textile engineering. The M.Tech courses offered by the university include Civil, Chemical, and Computer Science, Electrical, Electronics, IP, IT, Mechanical and Textile engineering. The university also offers MBA and MCA postgraduate degrees.

The university is research-centric and has set up 2305 research centres in its colleges. Some of the areas where research is funded include biotechnology, engineering sciences, general sciences, mathematics, physics and business administration. The university also has its focus on research in the fields of embedded technology, bio engineering, agricultural engineering and software quality. VTU revises the syllabus every four years in order to keep up with the technology around the world. There is also a lot of public-private participation, and the university has signed MoUs with several industrial houses to set up centres of excellence, which has helped them in better interaction between the industry and the students as well as faculty of the university. The University is making steady progress in developing and providing best technical environment for education and will continue to serve the nation in coming years.
