Vidya Vardhaka College of Engineering
The Midas of Mysore
Vidya Vardhaka College of Engineering has excellent centers of excellences facilitating quality research environment where students are able to work on their projects without any constraints.
Non-adherence to lane driving and overtaking in a wrong manner is listed among the top five reasons for road accidents in India. Statistics show that 1214 road crashes occur every day in India and there is one death every four minutes due to a road accident. The road accidents are increasing every year even though the traffic regulations have been tightened and the traffic police have become more cautious. It is humanly impossible for the traffic police to supervise every corner, which is a major reason for negligence, but all this can be changed with a simple GPS-monitored traffic control system designed by the students of Vidya Vardhaka College of Engineering.
How would it be if the people who break the traffic rules and cause accidents are tracked and caught immediately? People would think twice before breaking a traffic rule and the incidents can be brought down considerably with the help of the control system .The traffic control system is an automated traffic rule violation detector that can impose penalty on errant vehicles. Innovations such as this can change the face of the Indian traffic system and make our roads safer. Other research projects that are equally innovative are a model that produces electricity from elevators and automated water-level indicator to avert floods. There are several projects from the institution that has been received well and there are many that are still in their initial stage. The institute houses three centers of excellences Wipro Mission 10x lab, Intel intelligence system labs, and Robotics lab in association with IIT, Mumbai. These labs facilitate quality research equipments which is very necessary for any quality research work. Some of the successful projects have already turned into successful entrepreneurial ventures.
At the age of 18 Nikhil Furtado founded a company called Hidden Reflections in 2010, the company was a result of an innovative research project, Nikhil had developed a low cost 3D printer and right after his studies with the help of the institution he was able to set up his own company. Today Hidden Reflections is one of the reputed media and communications agency based in Mysore. This was one of the first projects turned into an entrepreneurial venture and it proved to be very successful too. The institution has a very active entrepreneurship development cell which was set up in order to encourage the entrepreneurial spirit among students. Every year in February the institution hosts a week long program called the E week where several events are lined up in order to encourage the students.
