The youngsters in the country are full of drive and passion. They are risk averse and are inclined to work on their own. On the academic side, the students look for flexibility and choices rather than traditional means of learning that have been in existence for generations. Located in the National Capital Region, The NorthCap University (NCU) has featured these aspects in their curriculum design. "Our multidisciplinary programs are driven by a mission to impart to its students high quality, value-based education in the core disciplines of Sciences, Engineering, Management and Law at par with international standards. To this end,we have developed linkages globally with government, industry, academia and alumni for knowledge generation, dissemination and application," says Brig. SK Sharma (Retd.), Pro Vice-Chancellor, The NorthCap University.

With Schools of Engineering & Technology, Management, Law and Basic Sciences, being complimentary to each other, the university generates synergy in their multi/inter-disciplinary collaborations. Despite being a young university, NCU has laid special emphasis to encourage research. "We have set up a Research, Development and Industrial Liaison (RDIL) headed by aDean level academician with industry background totake care of the various industrial consultancy works, sponsored research projects and to promote the industry and academia interaction," claims Brig. Sharma. The research activities at the university have further taken a leap with NCU's Vice-Chancellor's Innovation Fund. This scheme constitutes an allocation of Rs. 1.5 million per annum to each department wherein faculty members collaborate to pursue innovative research ideas. On the Publication side, the university has published over 230 research papers in 2015 in reputed national and international journals with high citation index.

Today, with a rich intellectual capital in the form of faculty who believes in critical aspects of higher education, NCU is considered as a vibrant, dynamic and interactive academic community. "Our faculty members are our greatest resource and we focus on their personal and professional growth. The members undergo various FDPs through inter-university workshops and seminars held around the country, motivating them to hone their teaching skills," says Brig. Sharma. With about 200 faculty members, the NCU prides on its academic leadership and their professional experience, which directly focuses on students. The university strengthens its roots enhancing the industry-institute interaction and increasing consultancy and industrial projects. "Industry-academia interaction in a University is essential to keep faculty updated with recent advancements in industry & academia," adds Brig. Sharma.

NCU has given a strong emphasis on academic - industry interface. These collaborations further yield internship and placement opportunities for students. The recent industry collaborations include MoUs with Mitsubishi Electric and Beijing Wave Spectrum. As regard to academia collaborations, NCU has MoUs with leading international institutions such as ITB Ireland, University of Chester, UK, n+i Engineering Institutes Network, France; University of Regina, Canada and Michigan Technological University, Houghton, USA for student exchange, research collaboration and curriculum design to bring in best international practices and standards.
