Like most of the South Indians, Tamilians also take much pride in their rooted culture and make great efforts in protecting their 2000-year-old history. In fact, why wouldn't they? This southern state of India, known to be one of the oldest civilizations in the world, is supremely rich in culture and heritage. Tamil Nadu is also one of the most literate states in India. The state performed reasonably in terms of literacy growth during the decade 2001 – 2011. According to 2011 Census, literacy rate in Tamil Nadu has been upward trend and is 80.09 percent.

Now, let us take its major city, Chennai as a case study. Chennai stands with the literacy rate of 90.33 percent and serves as a hub of education. The city houses many educational and research institutes of national repute. College of Engineering, Guindy, Madras Institute of Technology, IIT Madras, Madras Medical College, Stanley Medical College, Loyola College, Stella Maris College, Women's Christian College, Madras Christian College, Presidency College and the list does not end here.

Gracing a varied range of institutes, which offer a palette of U.G, P.G and PhD programs and more importantly a mix basket of professionals programs, Tamil Nadu provides so much to the education sector. After graduation, students also do not need to seek job in other parts of the country. Indeed, they can find themselves in the midst of a sea of opportunities here. Tamil Nadu has a broad industrial base in the automobile, computer, technology, hardware manufacturing and healthcare sectors. Nicknamed as "Detroit of India", Chennai is base to 40-45 percent for India's automobile and auto component industry. A large number of automotive companies including Hyundai, Renault, Robert Bosch, Nissan Motors, Ford, BMW, Mitsubishi and many more have manufacturing plants in the state.
