Lovely Professional University (LPU) is the largest university in India in terms of number of students on a single campus. The university has more than 30,000 fulltime students on its 600 acre campus, which is located on Jalandhar-Delhi National Highway at Phagwara (Punjab), India. With students coming from all the 29 states of India and 50+ countries including the USA, China, Colombia, Thailand, Ghana, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Maldives, Nepal, Bhutan, Mongolia, Indonesia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Tanzania, Nigeria, Congo, Rwanda and more, the University has a rich diversity in its students' population. Human Resource Development Minister has given award to LPU for the best Private University of the country and top university of India in the area of innovation and entrepreneurship. Business India awarded A++ ranking to its Management Institute. The Times of India has ranked it as the 6th best Engineering Private University from North Zone. Zee News has ranked LPU as 11th Best Universities in Placement and as one of the Best for Study Environment and there are numerous such accolades.

With these accolades, LPU has now emerged as one of the leading universities of India and is duly recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC). A member of Association of Indian Universities (AIU), LPU is also recognized by the statutory bodies of the Government of India in diverse fields of higher education including National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), Distance Education Council (DEC), Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), Council of Architecture (COA) and Bar Council of India (BCI).

Ashok Mittal, Chancellor

Ashok Mittal, an exponent of industry relevant higher education, is humble and foresighted entrepreneur who has a strong vision to transform the way education is delivered in India. Under his steering, LPU is an epitome of "TRANSFORMING EDUCATION, TRANSFORMING INDIA". Born in Jalandhar on 10th of September 1964, he completed his Graduation and LLB from Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar.

In the past, LPU was honored to have five head of the state of nations to visit the campus including President of India, Dr. Pranab Mukharjee and President of Afghanistan, Dr. Hamid Karzai, who was honored with "Honorary Causa Degree" in year 2013; President of Mauritius, Rajkeswur Purryag who was conferred upon "Honorary Doctorate Degree" of LPU in April, 2015 and also in November 2016 President of the Republic of Mauritius Dr. (Mrs) Ameenah Gurib-Fakim who was conferred upon "Honorary Doctorate Degree" of LPU; Honorable Prime Minister of Lesotho Kingdom Dr Pakalitha Bethuel Mosisili who was conferred upon "Honorary Doctorate Degree" of LPU in October 2015. His Holiness the Dalai Lama also visited the campus and was conferred a degree of "Doctor of Divinity", Honoris Causa, from Lovely Professional University in November, 2015.
