As design education involves giving life to imaginations, it is ever important to study this discipline in a reputed institute where the curriculum not only imparts skills and knowledge about design, but also amplifies the creative power of the students. One such design institute, Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology (Srishti) is a place for mastering creative competence and increasing creative aptitude for making unique designs with an artistic blend. Srishti was started by the Ujwal Trust in Bengaluru in 1996 and since then it is producing creative and ingenious practitioners unleashing enormous talents. "What we mean by this is we fabricate inspired proficiency by providing education that is ahead of the present curve, so that when students graduate they can work in any formal and informal sector and get the highest level of appreciation," says Geetha Narayanan, Founder Director, Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology.
"Believing that the holistic development of students happens when they are involved in sports and arts, Srishti has imbibed various cultural activities for the students."
Industry Relevant Progressive Courses
Srishti offers courses on vocation, fine arts and design at the undergraduate level, and arts, design, fine arts and planning at the postgraduate level. The courses are on par with the technical and professional demands of the industry and learning at Srishti through interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary tools allow the designers to work in emerging multi-dimensional field. "Well, I think it's in our ways of teaching, which is mainly based on teacher-student interaction that makes the students comfortable working in more than one field," asserts Geetha. Apart from classroom pedagogy, students at Srishti learn by participating in studios and tutorials that are made exclusively for the skill enhancement of the students. The faculty members also encourage the students to learn outside the classroom by doing a lot of fieldwork and conversing directly with communities. "We monitor all the proceedings and mentor the students if they fall while learning. That is why our quality is very high," explains Geetha.
At Srishti, the collective work of teaching faculty members and the non-teaching staff is reflected by the quality of alumni it is producing every year. "We are proud of all the alumni at Srishti as they are doing exceptional work in their respective fields. One alumnus, Alisha Panjwani is working as a design educator and STEM Teacherpreneur and owns a studio laboratory called SEEDS in Winchester, Massachusetts. She is an inspiring designer to whom students look up to for getting views on creativity. Another alumnus, Lopa Shah is working in Kashmir with Dolphin International School as the school director. She is also encouraging design education among various socio-economic groups and has incepted 'Native', which imparts design education. Alumni like them always play a major role in inspiring students to do something fruitful in their careers," explicates Geetha.

Their habits of staying fit stay with them even when they are working", elucidates Geetha.
According to Geetha Narayanan, the Indian higher education system has changed over the last decade and the design field has seen a rise in the numbers of private and state players. "Seeing this kind of development in design education, I think Srishti is not a new kid on the block. Srishti is a seasoned veteran in this field addressing students from all over the country who have desires to work in a way that the design industry has never seen before,"clarifies Geetha.
Already adding value to this development of design education, Srishti has a group of pulsating students who are engaged in ensuring that design education reaches every aspiring designer nationwide. Also, the non-static connections with a variety of industrial designers make the design pedagogy at Srishti continuously updated. "This is the overall learning scenario at Srishti where creativity is about turning a normal life into an electrifying one. The fact that we work in the Indian context and what we like is creating impacts on students' learning through indigenous pedagogy. And the fact that we have multiple programs, every designer can find some course that suits them and excel in it," concludes Geetha.
