As an educator, Mr Jeyaram Kadivan has always recognised that continuous professional development would better equip himself to remain relevant and to keep abreast of the latest development within the special education landscape.

Being reputed for its teacher training and education, he had a first-hand experience of the quality of education when he was at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NIE NTU, Singapore) for a diploma in special education programme. Upon completion of the diploma as well as his Bachelor's degree in Special Education, he knew NIE was the natural choice for him to pursue his graduate degree. He cited "...the very knowledgeable and prestigious faculty members of the programme who brought an array of theoretical knowledge and research skills to the classroom gave me the opportunity to understand existing knowledge in the field of special education as well as to contribute to knowledge through research."

As NIE is one of the few academic institutions in Singapore that offers a Master's programme specialising in special education, Mr Jeyaram decided to enroll in the Master of Education (Special Education) programme to further develop himself as an educator. He was also confident that with the knowledge and skills learnt during the programme, he will be able to benefit his students positively. "NIE has partnered with first-class universities across the continent with a clear vision to provide quality teacher education with well-developed programmes and highly experienced pedagogues to ensure that we, educators remain relevant."

Recalling the days of his studies, Mr Jeyaram shared further that "the days in NIE were filled with ups and downs, sometimes edging on moments of turbulence. Despite going through a grueling programme rife with assignments, presentations, online tutorials and huge amount of readings to be completed prior to a lesson, the programme has provided me with an abundance of opportunity to apply what has been learnt in NIE to my current work in the field of special education.

"The Master of Education (Special Education) programme aims to promote professional competence in special education by providing knowledge-based theory, practice and research. It also enables individuals to establish the nexus of educational theories and practices for developing a curriculum and pedagogy that meet their students' diverse needs.

The National Institute of Education (NIE), Singapore is an autonomous institute under the Nanyang Technological University. It has been ranked as one of the top 20 education institutions in the world and top 3 in Asia by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) ranking.
