Management education continues to attract young men and women who are usually motivated by the positive consequences of management education. In India, higher education, especially management studies, is witnessing exponential growth in the number of business schools coming up, helping students develop leadership skills, business principles, and professional networking making them job-ready.

The SIES School of Business Studies (SIESSBS), established in 2020, located in Navi Mumbai, envisages providing quality management education to the nascent professionals, the dynamic future managers of the 21st century. SIES School of Business Studies (SIESSBS) began its journey as an offshoot of SIES College of Management Studies (SIESCOMS), which was established in 1995 with the launch of the MMS program. The central purpose of SIES School of Business Studies is to enrich young minds by stimulating and sustaining a spirit of inquiry directed at understanding the scientific, technological, and cognitive aspects of working in organizations by undertaking activities designed to accelerate critical thinking and thus enlarge its students' intellectual and creative capacities.

Focussing on Holistic Development

Owing to rapid technological advancements, new career options are opening up in the management domain. SIESSBS follows a world-class application-driven curriculum that makes liberal use of simulations and cases in its value-added courses that enhance students' capabilities for entering the global job environment. Its Lateral Thinking Module promotes the discovery of new ways of thinking, troubleshooting, visualization, root cause analysis, and more. The Learning Entrepreneurship with Wadhwani Foundation is a practitioner's course to empower students with an entrepreneurial mindset and business skills to enhance job prospects, encourage entrepreneurship, and drive long-term entrepreneurship. SIESSBS organizes one of the most experiential interventions, called the Skill-Linked Immersion Program (SLIP), to facilitate the development of soft skills among students. The primary objective of SLIP is to help students improve their communication, presentation, stress handling, motivation, leadership, and team-building skills through field activities.

SIES continuously strives to adapt to the digital transformations happening around education, and has adopted JUNO, an ERP framework, MS Teams, has an entirely digitized library for easy access, became an official sponsor of Coursera, and set up Virtual Placement Training-mock interviews and GDs/corporate readiness programs. Intending to create a niche in specific areas, the institute has developed Centres of Excellence in the areas of Banking and finance, ethics and values, healthcare, entrepreneurship, logistics, supply chain, and NGO and CSR. The international accreditation of its flagship PGDM program by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), USA, has put it on a different pedestal where only a few top Indian business schools exist. Further, as global competitiveness has become sine quo non for success, optional foreign student visits are organized under the Global Immersion Programme.

"At SIESSBS, every faculty has moved beyond the usual management education pedagogy and instead uses the power of innovative thinking to hone the smart decision-making abilities of every student. The support, coaching, and personalized attention of faculty as mentors provide skills needed to solve complex business issues in the current VUCA environments. We have more than 50 faculty core faculty members, more than 2/3rd of which are PhDs, and the remaining are from corporate. Around 20 faculty members (2-3 in each discipline) had senior-level position experience before they joined the institute. SIESSBS has extensive faculty development policies offering leave for pursuing a Ph.D., deputation for MDPs, promotion as per UGC norms, reimbursement for attending FDPs, financial incentives for publications, faculty registration for NPTEL and SWAYAM online courses, consulting sharing, and favorable research policy", speaks Dr. Suhas Tambe, Director, SIES School of Business Studies.

Connecting Education to Industry

SIESSBS focuses on the holistic development of students to prepare them for the real world and make them industry ready. SIESCOMS set up a Stock Trading Simulation Center having 20 terminals with the active support of the Bombay Stock Exchange to facilitate the simulation of trading of stocks, stock derivatives, and currency derivatives. The simulation allows participants to create and manage their portfolios and compete with other players in a risk-free environment. The objective is to give students a real-time experience in stock trading, including derivatives, helping build up investment skills and strategies through real-time investment experience. SIESCOMS has also been sending the management students for a one-week immersion internship program to give them hands-on exposure and experience, which is essential to develop social sensitivity and responsiveness among students. The endeavor helps the students sharpen their skills to apply managerial principles/theories/paradigms in the social sector. The Market Based Projects (MBPs) is a new initiative for PGDM-Pharmaceutical & Biotechnology Management students, enabling them to get real-life exposure to the various pharmaceutical market dynamics early in their career during their learning days. This is done by assigning a project to a group of students on a topic related to the pharmaceutical industry, which they execute in a geographical territory.

SIESSBS organizes an eight-week-long Ideathon, a tripartite collaboration of the young brains of SIESCOMS, corporate organizations, and individual consultancy. It is a hands-on collaboration effort of corporates, businesses, and students to generate new and practical solutions to business challenges organizations face in the real world.

SIESSBS's foundation maps its roots to the rich tradition of the South India Education Society(SIES), established in 1932 with the Motto - 'Rise with Education' as a responsibility; it is one of the oldest and value-based educational trusts that run several educational institutes in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Dr. V Shankar is the President of the SIES Society and is a well-known intellectual and institution builder under whose leadership SIES School of Business Studies will continue to strive towards providing the best education to students, focusing on research and publications, fostering and nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit. It plans to qualify for higher accreditations, become active in MDPs/FDPs and consultancy, and a center for online certifications, and finally, become an autonomous institution in the next five to seven years.
