Rushmore Business School: A Gateway For Indian Students To Access High-Level, Internationally Recognised Courses
Dr Nittin Essoo, Director, Rushmore Business School
The current scenario of higher education in India shows that there is a major gap between graduates and jobs, and hence many employers don't trust the quality of Indian's graduates. In a survey by Wheelboz, Taggd, and the Confederation of Indian Industry, respondents rated graduates of higher education institutions below a 50 percent employability level. Additionally, one of the pain points of the education system is the fact that the business schools are expected to deliver what the industries require from graduates. It has been noticed that some professionals in the work industry don't have the necessary qualifications but have the work experiences in a specific field, and on the other hand there are professionals who don't have the work experiences but have the necessary qualifications for a specific job. This is where Rushmore Business School is proving to be a notch apart from other institutes by offering customised training to address the challenge of adapting to an industry's needs.
Established in 2002, Rushmore Business School is the first higher education institute to have brought British education at the student's doorstep. The institute is renowned for offering British education to the students and is the pioneer in that niche in Mauritius, justifying its slogan 'British Education at your doorstep'. Over the last two decades now, the business school has formed partnerships with British awarding bodies and universities, like Leeds Beckett University, Pearson, University of Suffolk to name a few. It is therefore a golden opportunity for students to have a British qualification while staying in the comfort of his/her country home.
Through its partnership with a French Business School (Neoma Business School), Rushmore Business School offers specific training to the professionals of an industry. The latest edition was on 'Negotiation and marketing strategy in the retailing field'. The business school remains flexible regarding the delivery of the course ' same can be delivered on the campus of Rushmore Business School or at the company's facilities. This course helps to prepare everyone for the roles they require to play as professional resources. In addition to that, Rushmore Business School offers foundation courses to those who don't have the O levels and A levels, giving the students the academic requirements needed over one year. This internationally recognised qualification, equivalent to the O levels and A levels, will allow the student to progress to any undergraduate courses afterwards, and go up to the master level.
Equipped to Evolve
Rushmore Business School offers several state-of-the-art facilities and equipment to help fulfill the student's needs, whether it be academic or leisure. The institution has a conference room, a library, a football pitch (a football tournament is organised once per year), a fitness and games room, a computer lab. There is also a spa centre dedicated to the student's studying spa & wellness courses. The campus also hosts computer rooms with more than 100 PCs available to students.
"Quite a few trends have been born with the Covid-19 crisis challenges. Firstly, it has forced everyone to do digital. Students and lecturers had to shift from the face-to-face environment to the distant learning or hybrid mode, which has created a different approach in terms of lecturing/ learning. While some students enjoyed the online mode of learning as it better fit their professional agenda, others preferred the traditional way of learning, i.e., in a classroom, as it created stronger connections with their peers and lecturers. Therefore, the learning system has evolved in that industry and some institutions have capitalise on that digital aspect, proposing online or hybrid classes to students. Rushmore has invested into a full-fledged recording studio to meet this demand", shares Dr. Nittin Essoo, Director of Rushmore Business School.
Regardless of the learning space (face-to-face classroom, online, hybrid), Rushmore Business School has always promoted teamwork and collaboration by encouraging groups of students to work together to accomplish shared goals. In classes, the lectures also use case-based teaching strategies, using real-life examples so that the students can better understand the concepts of what is being taught in classes. The business school also encourages inclusion and diversity by evaluating the content of the course under a culturally aware lens. Finally, the concept of learning outside the classroom is also important to Rushmore Business School" recently, the students in law (first year of LLB (Hons) in Law) visited the District Council and the Supreme Court to have an idea of how a case is being debated.
Making Students Future-Ready
Throughout the last 20 years, Rushmore Business School has partnered with academic partners and awarding bodies such as Leeds Beckett University, Pearson, Chartered Institute of Marketing, British Computer Society, and more recently the University of Suffolk, to make sure that the students get high quality UK programs. Thanks to these partnerships, the students will be allowed to do an exchange semester on campus in the UK, for some courses, thus giving them the opportunity to rub shoulders with foreign students and get an international exposure.
When it comes to placement and opportunities, Rushmore Business School do have collaboration with companies of various industries to make sure that it offers the proper curriculum to the students, and upon request of the students, our team shares the contact details of the companies so that they can have placement or internship opportunities. "The internships are compulsory only for the fields of construction and accounting (ACA). For the remaining fields, we usually recommend the students to touch base with the work industry. Nevertheless, most of our students are already working so they can already apply the knowledge learnt in classes", shares Dr. Nittin Essoo.
Rushmore Business School also offers soft skills training to students to prepare them for the world of work including mock job interviews, CV writing and presentations. The institution celebrates two decades of British education and over 5000 successful graduates till date. When asked about the future plans, Dr Nittin Essoo shares, "Like any other businesses, we have the desire to expand, and we have therefore a opened a campus of Rushmore Business School in Bracknell, United Kingdom This will allow the students to be able to have the choice to do a semester in the UK or in Mauritius and will broaden our student network to European countries".
