Molding Minds since 60 Years
How often do you hear of an institute providing students with a chance to collaborate with a Governmental space organization to enhance their projects?
This benchmark is soon to be achieved by Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT). The students of MIT have designed a satellite which would be launched piggybacked with ISRO's next satellite launch. Established in 1957, Manipal engineering college renamed as Manipal Institute of Technology is soon to celebrate diamond jubilee of the institute in 2017.
Since its inception, MIT has been grounded in its vision to excel in imparting technical education to students and to educate them to face social challenges. The institute provides 51 programs as a whole which includes UG, PG and Diploma programs. Out of which most popular branches are electronics and communication, computer science and mechanical engineering. An 'open elective' subject, which is a set of subjects other than engineering such as management, logistics and humanities, is also offered at the progressive institute. Dr GK Prabhu,Director,MIT mentions, "A student needs to have holistic learning experience and these open elective subjects would provide the same." The institute updates its curriculum in everyfour years and stays ahead of the curve by remaining vigilant of the industry requirements. The institute has 600 faculty memberswho possess expertise in various subjects andconducts faculty recruitments throughout the year and absorbs any talented and skilled professional. Various FDPs are organized throughout the year to develop the teaching skills of the faculty members and also experience as much from faculty meets and industrial tours to borne more and confer it back to the students. The institute has a healthy student-teacher ratio as per QS benchmarking.
The university currently holds a global rank of 1118 on SCImago Institution Rankings (SIR), published by SCImago Research Group, Spain and stands 600th globally and 15th in the country for research output and publications. The institution has a scheme that if the faculty achieves a grant through private or government provisions, then the institute provides a stipulated amount of incentive to them. It carries 10-15 percent of the grant as an incentive out of 15 lakhs allotted for the faculty members.Dr TMA Pai endowment chair is another such scheme where 10 lakh is fixed for 20 such faculty members. After such ample amount of opportunities provided by the institute, the students are equally prepared for the next big level of their life- employment. Every year the MIT campus hosts over 100 recruiters from various conglomerates and globally acclaimed organizations such as TCS, Siemens and Cisco, sustaining a 90 percent placement record across all branches.
MIT also provides a platform known as the innovation centre for the student's to actualize their thoughts and innovate new products. Thereafter, the product is taken to the incubation centre where it is polished, launched as an entrepreneurial venture in the name of the student and is assisted with funds and services to set up as a new Startup. The practice school of the institute has also seen some of commendable developments by the students through their live projects. A formula 1 carand a solar mobile car are two of such fruitful experiments. These three centers make the most of the learning process and have been successful in bringing laurels to the institute.Apart from supporting such creative ventures, MIT offers 100 percent scholarships to the first 100 meritorious students of every batch depending upon their performance during admission and yearly performances.
MIT has strong industry collaborations and MOUs signed with national and international institutes and organizations.MIT offers students to visit and study in one of the 100 such collaborated Universities and colleges during the period of their study.MIT has been constantly training the students with number of educational conferences and inter-college meets to indulge more vibrancy and multi cultural platform to the students."With good strategy and action plan MIT hopes to achieve a rank in top 10 institutes in next five years," concludes Dr Prabhu.
