Raghu Institute of Technology: Integrating the Variables of Innovation
Engineering college is not just another educational establishment where students learn about the application of existing processes and technologies. Innovation is the keyword here and good engineers strive for discovery. Unfortunately, a large chunk of engineering colleges in India does not provide adequate infrastructure for the students work on their novel ideas. Raghu Institute of Technology (RIT) not only encourages its students to think about innovation, but also helps them in the implementation process. Today, RIT stands as an open global knowledge centre with an expert academic network
Perhaps, Raghu Engineering Institutions are the only technical colleges in the state of Andhra Pradesh that have established advanced and sophisticated Electro Lounge, Innovation Studio and Coding Lounge where students create and convert their ideas into reality. The main aim of these establishments is to provide excellent infrastructure facilities to students and bridge the skill gap between industry and academia.
"Engineering education is facing multiple challenges today and we have taken many steps to cope up with this trend. Establishment of special labs and creating awareness among the students about the importance of research activities are some of them. We also conduct several guest lecturers to narrow the industry-academia gap," says Raghu Kalidindi, Chairman, RIT. The institute use several innovative methodologies such as Role play, Quiz, Brainstorming, Mind-mapping, Comparison Charts, Guided Design, A to Z approach , Analogy, Real Time Demonstrations, Group Discussions and Concepts Sketch in classrooms to make the complicated concepts easy.
"Every semester we organize events like internal symposia, project expo, quiz and many more to produce industry ready engineers from our campus," pinpoints Dr. Ch. Prabhakar Rao, Principal, RIT. At present, the institute runs with five undergraduate courses (ECE, CSE, EEE, MEC and CIVIL Engineering) and two Post Graduate courses (Computer Science and Engineering and Machine Design). On the flipside, the institute encourages cultural and extracurricular activities so that students do not get preoccupied with the stress of the studies.
"We have a student body which takes the initiative of organizing various activities for the students all year long. The regular functions, events and festivals inside the campus and outside also help our students in developing their overall skills," adds Dr. Rao. These platforms stand as the reflection of the student skill sets. Every year the college organizes three-day Tech Fest where approximately 3000 students participate. "The main idea of our event is to bring out the real talent in an individual and also to make the students acquaint in building up team work, which would be highly beneficial in their future," claims Dr. Rao.
Today, RIT stands as an open global knowledge centre with an expert academic network. The college rightly understands the need of communication skills for better career options. "Group discussions, essay writing, recitation of poetry and language contests are held at regular intervals and we also invite expert persons regularly to the institution to conduct workshops on the development of communication competence among the students," says Kalidindi.
RIT has taken many steps to improve the quality of education. "We practice radical new approaches for providing students with practical skills necessary to become effective professionals and future leaders," adds Kalidindi. Thus, by providing world-class facilities to implement the creative teaching methodologies, RIT chisels the students with a perfect synthesis of human values, ancient wisdom and modern thoughts to build their careers.
Raghu Kalidindi, Chairman
As a renowned academician in the state of Andhra Pradesh, Kalindindi do not consider education a phase in one's life, but as a lifelong process. He believes that education holds the key to society's progress and prosperity. It is precisely this conviction, which prompted him to passionately pursue and promote education par excellence.
