They prepare students with the specific knowledge and skills required to perform the role of the profession they choose. Preparing and modifying the curriculum according to the students and industry requirements Malla Reddy Engineering College, Hyderabad is quickly becoming one of the most preferred engineering colleges in the state. Understanding the ongoing problem of unemployability of engineering graduates in the country, the institution maintains MoU's with key names in the industry such as IBM, Tech Mahindra and HP, which result in various industrial collaborative projects.
To expose students to guest faculty members from outside the campus, under the World Bank programme the institute has introduced quality education in engineering, where professors give live lectures from IIT Chennai and students can interact with them and clear any doubts about their projects and subjects. Aside from their faculty and industry related collaborative programs, the institute's curriculum is also frequently updated and organized by the committee set up particularly for that purpose."We are the first institution in the state of Telengana to have introduced the choice based credit system," says Dr S Sudhakara Reddy, Principal, Malla Reddy Engineering College(A), while talking about the recent changes in the curriculum of the college. The institution has introduced online assignments reducing the time spent on written assignments, it also helps the students focus on their other projects. Introducing the choice based credit system; the university has provided students with more options on their choice of subjects.
The engineering college provides faculty Development Programmes under 'Tech Mahindra students and faculty development programme'. The programme is introduced to enhance the academic and intellectual environment of the institution. A teacher can be considered good only when they are able to deliver concepts effectively. Hence, while recruiting the faculty the institute makes sure that their degree is not the only parameter which is taken into consideration. With 300 faculty members, majority of them holding PhD degrees, the teaching methodology is always to be supplemented with audio-visual aids.
As a crucial part of the curriculum a pre placement cell has been established in the campus with industry experts to train the students on a regular basis. The training provides in soft skills, resume building, software training and interview skills. Armed with the focused training, the highest package so far has been over seven lakhs and big names visit the campus for recruitment such as HCL, IBM and Wipro. The unwavering effort put in the pre placement training by the experts result in a good placement record.
Every year on engineer's day student project exhibition is organized, which leads to many students coming up with creative projects and innovations. Many events like this are arranged by the entrepreneurship development cell that has been established by the institution in order to encourage young and budding entrepreneurs within the institute to come up with their own ideas. They help the students set up their start ups by providing information about the requirements and also help them with the loan procedure. Many former students who have started their own company are invited and students are given a chance to interact with them. Alumni and student interactive sessions help the students know about the industry trends.
The institution is NAAC accredited with A grade in 2010 and 2015 and also maintains an autonomous status conferred by the JNTUH in 2011 and autonomous status by UGC in 2014.Successfully implementing the choice based credit system, strengthening the labs and turning each department into center of excellence and making the institution a deemed university are few among the many plans they have for future. Dr. Reddy has rich teaching and industrial experience of over three decades. As an administrator, he has been instrumental in acquiring accreditation status for most of the institutions that he has worked with. He obtained his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from S.V. University Tirupathi. He has authored three text books and published 20 technical papers in national, international conferences and journals. His contribution for the development of the MREC is noteworthy. Known for his discipline and administrative acumen, Dr.Sudhakara Reddy's presence and contribution to the growth of Malla Reddy Engineering College (Autonomous) is significant. In all the major events he is a hands-on worker. He is a great leader who induced discipline, commitment and work ethics into the staff of the college.
